On October 8, American music magazine Rolling Stone announced its list of ‘The 250 Best Songs of the 21st Century.’ The track ranked no.37, which is the highest among Korean songs.
Rolling Stone praised the track, writing, “‘Spring Day’ turned personal grief into a surging, triumphal power ballad. ‘I wish to end this winter/How much longings must fall like snow/Before that spring day arrives,’ goes the English translation of RM’s passionate lyrics. The song is associated with a tragedy in the band’s native Korea — the sinking of the ferry MV Sewol in 2014, in which 304 people died — but its sense of resilience and hope wrought from loss has a transcendent feel, soon to be mirrored in the band’s global takeover. BTS would have bigger crossover hits around the world, but few songs approach the gathering power of their music like this one.”
Released in February 2017 as the title track of BTS’s second studio album repackage, “Spring Day” is an alternative hip-hop song blending Brit rock and electronic sounds. Its lyrics, written by RM and SUSGA, reflect their personal experiences.
Rolling Stone also lauded “Spring Day” as the song that propelled BTS’s global rise, adding that the track showcases the powerful unity within their music.
The song achieved massive popularity in Korea as well. It became the first track in Melon’s history to surpass 1 billion streams, and it holds the record for the longest run on the daily chart, remaining there for nearly 7 years and 11 months.
Internationally, the song also performed well on the Billboard 200 chart, debuting at No. 61 on March 4, 2017, and remaining on the chart for two consecutive weeks—earning immense love from overseas fans.
Meanwhile, BTS is currently preparing for a group comeback in spring 2026. The group is expected to release a new album next year and embark on a large-scale world tour in conjunction with the comeback.
