BTS ushered in the second chapter of their career, marking a successful return with their fifth full-length album and a comeback show.

According to OTT tracking site Flix Patrol, ‘BTS Comeback Live: Arirang‘ ranked No. 1 in Netflix’s Top 10 Movies category (as of March 22).

The group topped charts in a total of 77 countries and regions, including South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Türkiye, Switzerland, Spain, Norway, Peru, and Mexico.

Their global impact was undeniable. Even in regions where they did not take the top spot, they maintained positions in the Top 3, ranking No. 2 in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic and No. 3 in New Zealand.

The comeback show was streamed live on Netflix, marking the first time the platform has broadcast a solo performance by a specific artist in real time.

This achievement further cemented BTS’s status as global artists. Fans worldwide, known as ARMY, showed overwhelming interest and support despite the group’s 3-year-and-9-month hiatus.

Their fifth full-length album, ‘Arirang,’ also received an explosive response. Released on March 20, the album sold over 3.98 million copies on its first day alone.

Major international media outlets took notice. Publications such as Rolling Stone, Billboard, and the BBC provided prominent coverage of BTS and their new album.

Rolling Stone published an article titled “BTS Proves a Perfect Comeback with ‘Arirang,’” highlighting the album’s strong sense of identity.

The outlet noted that Arirang “emphasizes Korean roots while boldly exploring new musical territories,” adding that the album “reminds listeners where BTS began, while bringing together the experiences each member has accumulated over time.”

It further described the album as a turning point for the group, stating that “seven distinct voices have reunited as one, becoming stronger than before.”

NPR wrote that “‘Arirang’ demonstrates how BTS has built a unique musical identity,” adding that the group “clearly presents its own artistic direction.”

The UK edition of Rolling Stone also praised the album, saying it “matches BTS’s global reputation in quality” and is “meticulously crafted down to the finest details.”

The title track “SWIM” received particular acclaim. Billboard described the song as powerful, noting that “its message – scattered rivers coming together into the sea – drives its impact.”

The Hollywood Reporter viewed the project as “a meaningful turning point,” stating that the group expressed “their affection for life and their journey through music as they approach the next chapter of their career.”

The New York Times highlighted not only the album release but also the live Netflix broadcast of the comeback show, while the BBC analyzed the broader significance of BTS’s return.
