BTS returns to US stage after 4 years

K-pop powerhouse BTS has commenced its highly anticipated North American tour in Tampa, Florida, marking the group’s first full-scale concert series in the region in four years.

The group opened the North American leg of its “BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’” at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa with performances on Saturday, Sunday and a third show scheduled for April 28 (local time). The performances mark their first return to the U.S. stage since their April 2022 shows in Las Vegas.

The extensive tour will span 12 cities across North America for a total of 31 performances. Due to overwhelming demand, tickets for all initial dates sold out immediately, prompting organizers to add extra shows in cities including Tampa, Stanford and Las Vegas.

Tampa has embraced the group’s arrival by transforming the city into a festival zone. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor shared videos on social media showing the city hall illuminated in purple, the color associated with BTS and its fandom, ARMY. The city’s bridges are also set to remain lit in purple through April 29.

Local infrastructure has coordinated to manage the massive influx of visitors. Tampa International Airport displayed welcome messages at its main terminal, while city officials implemented road closures around the stadium and set up large-scale booths for official merchandise sales.

U.S. media outlets also focused on the cultural and economic impact of the band’s America visit. FOX 13 Tampa Bay aired a special program titled “K-Pop: The Seoul Reach” during the concert dates, exploring the global influence of the group and the growth of Korean culture in Florida.

According to 10 Tampa Bay News, the concert series is projected to generate an economic impact of between $800 million and $900 million for the Tampa area, highlighting the significant ripple effect on the local economy.

BTS will continue the tour at the Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, on May 2 and 3. The upcoming event will mark the first time a Korean artist has held a solo concert at the venue.

Shortly after the release of its fifth studio album “ARIRANG,” BTS launched its world tour this month, starting with three shows in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. This comeback is particularly gaining attention as it marks the end of a nearly four-year hiatus, during which members focused on their individual projects and the completion of their mandatory military service.
