On May 9, KST, BIGHIT MUSIC released the lead single of RM’s upcoming album, “Come Back to Me.” The release came with a cinematic music video, portraying a visual narrative that has prompted multiple interesting interpretations. The music video has left viewers thoroughly impressed, who highly praised the director, Lee Sung Jin, for his vision. Lee, best known for his Netflix drama Beef, is a Primetime Emmy winner and a well-recognized director and writer in the fraternity. While his collaboration with RM was a dream come true for many fans, for the man himself, the process got a little scary during the initial phase.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director mentioned that he was afraid of getting deported from South Korea while working with RM. The music video shoot, he explained, was slated to happen across a long three-day schedule in Paju. The sequences had to be rehearsed very intricately as well. But while filming, RM unfortunately ended up getting hurt.

“He bent down and his head hit the camera and it was giant gash on his eye.”

— Lee Sung Jin

RM ended up having to go to the hospital to treat the wound, which required a few stitches to be closed up. But Lee felt that this was a grave mistake that happened on his watch,

“Immediately I thought, ‘Oh great, I’m going to be deported immediately because I’ve just scratched this national treasure.”

— Lee Sung Jin

Contrary to his fears, RM’s reaction to the injury was pretty nonchalant. Lee recalled that the rapper went to the hospital and came right back after getting his stitches, ready to resume filming! His sincerity toward his work even made a seasoned director like Lee feel as if his horizons were also being “pushed.”

“He would come and check the monitor and be like, ‘Oh, I think we can get that one a little bit better.”

— Lee Sung Jin

Thankfully, Lee did not get deported, and instead, fans were able to enjoy the cinematic music video for RM’s latest release. Meanwhile, his second solo album, Right Place Wrong Person, is slated to be released on May 24.
