SUGA apologizes to fans following his discharge from mandatory service

On June 21 KST, BTS member SUGA greeted fans with a lengthy post on Weverse, relaying his thoughts on his official discharge from his mandatory service.

“Hello everyone, it’s SUGA.

It’s been about 2 years. How have you been?

As of today, I have been officially discharged from my mandatory service, and so I am able to greet you again after so long.

I thought for a long time about how I should greet you, since it’s been so long and also because I’d been waiting for this day.

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank all the fans who waited for me. I missed you very much.

I think I spent these past 2 years reflecting about myself as a person.

It also occurred to me that I needed to take a step back from this line of work that I am so used to being in and spend some time outside of that space.

Because I ran so hard while only looking ahead, I did not have a moment to stop and look back on myself. Through this time that was given to me, I was able to finally look back.

ARMYs, thank you again and again for waiting.

And I’m sorry for disappointing you and making you worry over what happened last year.

More than anything, what upset me most was that I hurt my fans.

I was also sorry toward my members, who were undoubtedly burdened in their respective positions because of what I had done.

From now on, I will do my best to repay you for the love that you’ve given me.

I love you. Everyone, you’ll hear more from me soon.”

Meanwhile, SUGA was previously fined 15 million KRW (~ $11,000 USD) for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated near his residence in August of 2023.
