Hong Kong airline employee caught selling BTS and other celebrities’ flight details.

A Hong Kong-based airline employee has been caught illegally selling flight reservation details of BTS and other top celebrities, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s cyber crime unit.

Authorities revealed on February 24th KST that they are currently investigating a 30-year-old woman (A) who worked for an international airline and allegedly accessed and leaked hundreds of flight details from 2023 to 2024.

A, who had direct access to internal booking systems, allegedly searched for celebrity names and birthdates using airline software to obtain confidential flight information, including seat numbers.

She then sold this information, with higher prices for top stars like BTS and specific seating details. Investigators estimate she sold over 1,000 sets of data and made profits exceeding 10 million KRW (~$7,000 USD).

A reportedly confessed to initially sharing the information as a favor to acquaintances, but later began selling the data for profit.

K-pop stars and other celebrities have long been targeted by obsessive fans attempting to obtain personal travel information. This case highlights serious security concerns within the airline industry regarding unauthorized access to passenger records.

Authorities are now expanding their investigation to identify other individuals involved in the sale and distribution of celebrity flight details.
