Religion can be private or public, and many individuals choose to discuss their faith or lack thereof only on rare occasions. Within K-Pop, talk of religion can be met with harsh reactions depending on the context and fan sentiment.
BTS’s RM recently brought up religion in a new interview, sparking reactions from fans.
The idol sat down with Harper’s BAZAAR Korea for a short interview on its YouTube channel ahead of the release of the September 2025 edition where he on the cover.

During the interview he was asked about words or phrases he keeps in his heart because of their meaning and shared that there were two, the first being “Everything happens for a reason.” He shared that the second was that “God always give us challenges according to our capacity.”

RM, who previously shared that he was an atheist in an interview for his first mixtape, earned a variety of reactions from fans, many of whom were surprised to hear the familiar phrases. In both Christianity and Islam there are religious passages that contain these words almost exactly, which has made fans wonder if he has had a change in his beliefs.
Many were also thankful and comforted by the reminder of the words, regardless of RM’s faith.

With or without religion, I am glad that Namjoon found something to comfort himself. And I really hope fans would stop with the insensitive jokes about his beliefs or “new” beliefs. Be respectful. pic.twitter.com/CCPmj2vQGU
