Yongsan District Bureau Office leaks private information about the organizers of SUGA’s protest trucks to opposing complainers

A representative of the Yongsan District Bureau Office has admitted that a district official leaked private information about the organizers of BTS member SUGA’s protest trucks.

Since August 17 KST, a fan group has been organizing protests against SUGA in the form of wreaths and protest trucks, demanding that the idol leave BTS after his recent DUI scandal.

However, while making consistent updates on the daily protests, the fan group discovered that private information about individuals involved in the protests were leaked by the Yongsan District Bureau Office. Since then, the fan group has been facing numerous hacking attempts and threats.

On August 20, the organizers confirmed a testimony by a representative of the Yongsan District Bureau Office. According to the official, some individuals had filed a complaint with the Bureau Office, asking the District to remove the protest trucks and wreaths from the streets. The official commented, “We told the complainers that the protests are being carried out with a legal permit, recognizing the group’s right to assembly, and so the district cannot do anything at this time. But while explaining this, the worker who was on site showed the complainers a copy of the right to assembly permit. Yes, personal information such as names and addresses should not have been shared with the complainers. It was a mistake on the part of the Bureau Office.”

Currently, the protest organizers have filed a lawsuit against both the Yongsan District Bureau Office as well as those who filed civil complaints about the organized protests, and as a result, obtained private information about the organizers.

Based on the fan group’s claims, 16 individuals opposed to the ongoing truck and wreath protests have now obtained the private information of the protest organizers illegally, a severe breach of privacy.
