The Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) issued a “warning,” a legal sanction, to JTBC Newsroom on October 7 for incorrectly reporting closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of a private individual while covering BTS member SUGA’s drunk driving incident.

The KCSC made this decision after holding a full meeting at the Broadcasting Hall in Mok-dong, Seoul, where they listened to statements from relevant parties.

Additionally, the KCSC decided to issue a “recommendation” to ‘KBS-1TV’s KBS Sports Coverage‘ for broadcasting Puccini‘s opera ‘Madame Butterfly,’ which is set against the backdrop of Japan, on Liberation Day.

The KCSC’s rulings are categorized as “no issue,” administrative guidance stages like “suggestions” and “recommendations,” and legal sanctions such as “caution,” “warnings,” “program corrections/modifications/suspensions,” disciplinary action against those responsible, and “fines.” Legal sanctions, starting from “warming,” can result in demerits when broadcasters apply for license renewals.

Furthermore, the KCSC issued “recommendations” to ‘MBC Newsdesk,’ ‘News Foreign Affairs at 2 PM,’ ‘KBS-1AM’s Joo Jin Woo Live,’ and ‘MBC-AM’s Kim Jong Bae’s Focus‘ for failing to notify viewers about the availability of the full questionnaire on their website when reporting poll results.
