“ARMY, we’ve prepared something worthy of your long wait.” BTS return as a full group, marking a major new chapter.

The group will release their fifth full-length album ARIRANG on March 20 at 1 PM (KST), their first group album in approximately 3 years and 9 months since Proof. The project signals the official start of “BTS 2.0,” encapsulating the members’ lived experiences, reflections, and evolving identity.

The album features 14 tracks, including the title track “SWIM,” alongside “Body to Body,” “Hooligan,” and “No. 29.” “SWIM,” an alternative pop track, delivers a message about continuing forward through life’s waves. RM contributed to the lyrics, reinforcing the song’s authenticity.

BTS will host a group live broadcast via Weverse at 2 PM on release day, followed by a large-scale comeback performance at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on March 21.

“Focus on Who We Are”

SUGA emphasized that the album centers on identity rather than grand messaging. Jimin highlighted perseverance, noting the group’s intent to keep moving forward despite pressure and internal struggles. Jungkook described the album as the most “BTS-like,” capturing each member’s individuality and time.

Redefining ‘Korean Identity’

RM explained that “Korean elements” were not approached as fixed traditions but reinterpreted through BTS’s current perspective. The group experimented with ideas ranging from Taekwondo-inspired songwriting to incorporating cultural sentiment into lyrics and visuals.

J-Hope noted that embedding Korean rhythm and emotion was key, while V added that fans would discover subtle details reflecting each member’s input. The album title ARIRANG, a deeply symbolic Korean folk reference, was chosen with both pride and responsibility.

Why “SWIM” Became the Title Track

RM revealed that the group spent over a month trying to surpass “SWIM,” but ultimately returned to it for its understated appeal. He compared it to Pyongyang naengmyeon—subtle yet addictive.

Jin pointed to its memorable rhythmic elements, while J-Hope highlighted choreography designed to visually express waves and immersion. Jungkook concluded that the track becomes more convincing with repeated listens, aligning perfectly with the group’s current narrative.

“A Song Like Life”

The members described “SWIM” as a reflection of everyday life—breathing, moving forward, and enduring. They hope it resonates as a long-lasting song, much like “Arirang,” spreading organically among listeners.

Expanding Musical Boundaries

BTS experimented across genres and vocal styles. Tracks like “FYA” incorporate hyper-jersey influences, while “Like Animals” and “Merry Go Round” explore psychedelic textures. The group emphasized a deliberate shift toward restraint and nuance in recording.

Inside the LA Songwriting Camp

During sessions in Los Angeles, the members lived and worked together, revisiting trainee-era memories. Over 100 demo tracks were reviewed collectively, with V contributing the final track “Into the Sun” after a spontaneous burst of inspiration.

Defining “BTS 2.0”

RM framed it as “balance”—between reunion and forward movement. Jin stressed maturity and growth, while SUGA called it simply “a new beginning.” J-Hope and Jimin pointed to artistic freedom and continued evolution, and Jungkook defined it as embracing entirely new directions.

What Hasn’t Changed

Despite growth, the group emphasized that their bond remains intact. RM noted that their most genuine selves emerge together, while Jin added that their chemistry has only strengthened. The members agreed that their passion for the stage—and their love for ARMY—remains unchanged.

Message to ARMY

BTS expressed deep gratitude to fans who waited through the hiatus. They promised to reconnect through music, performances, and an upcoming world tour, inviting fans to fully enjoy this new era together.
