BTS‘s Jungkook spent his birthday on stage at SoFi Stadium, and handed his crown to a fan in a wheelchair partway through the show.
According to a report by My Daily on September 2, the moment came during the opening night of the Los Angeles leg of ‘ARIRANG,’ held September 1 local time. Fans had learned the Korean birthday song and sang it to him from the floor.
Yonhap News reported from the venue that the crowd sang the traditional folk song “Arirang” back at the group during the title track, with the floor covered in red light sticks.
The stage design pulled in Korean visual motifs to match the album, and light sticks shifted between red, blue, and purple across the set.
The members regrouped in Los Angeles for a song camp after finishing their military service last year, which is where the album took shape.
Fans travelled in from across the country for the opening night, and some had set up tents outside the venue days ahead, trading handmade keepsakes and wearing red to match the album.
Jungkook turned 29 on September 1, and this is the first birthday he has marked on stage since the group returned from military service.
Meanwhile, the run continues September 5 and 6 at the same venue.
