Which K-Pop hits are considered the most-loved songs of the 21st century in the minds of South Koreans?
To find the answer, a Gallup Korea survey was conducted between August 19~23. The survey was administered to 1,052 participants, ranging between the ages of 19~69. The participants were asked to choose “the most-loved K-Pop hit song of the 21st century” and were given 20 multiple-choice answers, from which they could choose two responses.
The survey results found that “Gangnam Style” by Psy was the #1 most-loved K-Pop hit song of the 21st century, earning 52% of the votes. The wildly catchy K-Pop tune shocked the world in 2019 by climbing up Billboard‘s ‘Hot 100‘ chart, starting at #64 in September and ending up at #2 by the week of October 6, retaining #2 spot for seven consecutive weeks. For a song with Korean lyrics at the time, it was an unprecedented record. Furthermore, as recently as December of last year, “Gangnam Style” continued to make history as the first K-Pop song ever to surpass 5 billion views on YouTube.
After “Gangnam Style”, BTS’s hit song “Dynamite” was voted in 2nd place with a close 46% of the votes. Next, “Tell Me” by Wonder Girls came in 3rd place (15%), “Good Day” by IU came in 4th place (13%), “DDU-DU DDU-DU” by BLACKPINK came in 5th place (11%), “Gee” by Girls’ Generation in 6th place (10%), “Lies” by Big Bang in 7th place (8%), “Trust In Me” by Lim Young Woong in 8th place (7%), “Ditto” by NewJeans in 9th place (7%), and “No. 1” by BoA in 10th place (4%).
