The members of BTS are giving themselves permission to dance together for the rest of their lives, according to SUGA.
In an individual conversation with Rolling Stone posted Thursday (April 16), the singer-producer said he feels confident the septet will continue operating as a band for as long as they are physically able. “I believe we can keep going in our 70s and 80s,” SUGA said, noting that they might need to tone down their famously intricate choreography once they get that old.
He doesn’t think he’ll ever tire of RM, Jin, Jimin, V, j-hope and Jung Kook’s company because, “They’re just really funny. It’s fun to be around them. I think of them as family. I’m sure that’s part of our success is that we share such a strong bond.”
The Bangtan Boys are now back together — and better than ever — after spending a couple of years apart to pursue solo projects and fulfill service requirements in the South Korean military. When asked whether there was any thought in the group of splitting up permanently after the band’s time apart, SUGA said, “Before going into the military, I knew we were always gonna get back together.”
“I can see how it would be surprising from a foreign perspective,” he added. “But for us, staying together just felt obvious.”
The interview comes as part of a greater series of on-camera one-on-one conversations with all seven members of BTS, as well as a full-band chat for the publication’s latest cover issue. The septet is currently in the midst of a global tour that will last through March 2027, supporting new album ARIRANG, which recently notched its third week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Elsewhere in his video, SUGA revealed his favorite rappers. “I grew up listening to Eminem,” the musician said. “Then Kendrick Lamar.”
