From late-night practice sessions to cozy dorm meals, these easy-breezy Korean dishes are staples in the lives of your idols, and they’re super easy to make at home! Here are five quick recipes inspired by the foods your fave K-pop idols love, perfect for satisfying your hunger. Let’s get cooking!

1. Kimchi Fried Rice (Kimchi Bokkeumbap)

Kpop Idol Who Loves it: BTS Jungkook

Why Idols Love It: Kimchi fried rice is a go-to comfort food for idols like Jungkook, who has mentioned making it during his dorm stay. It’s quick, easy, uses pantry staples, and packs a spicy punch to keep energy high. You can make it into a balanced meal by adding your choice of protein to it, if you have it handy.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

2 cups cooked rice (day-old works best)

1 cup kimchi, chopped

2 tbsp kimchi juice

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp gochujang (optional, for extra spice)

2 green onions, chopped

1 egg (optional, for frying)

Steps:

Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. 

Add kimchi and stir-fry for 2 minutes.

Add rice, kimchi juice, soy sauce, and gochujang (if using). 

Stir-fry for 5–7 minutes until rice is coated and slightly crispy.

Top with green onions and a fried egg, if desired. Serve hot!

2. Tteokbokki (Spicy Rice Cakes)

Kpop Idol Who Loves it: TWICE’s Nayeon

Why Idols Love It: This street food pick is a snack idols like TWICE’s Nayeon rave about. Its chewy texture and fiery sauce make it a perfect post-rehearsal treat.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

2 cups cylindrical tteok (rice cakes), fresh or frozen

2 cups water

1 tbsp gochujang

1 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp sugar

1 sheet fish cake, sliced (optional)

1 green onion, chopped

Steps:

If using frozen tteok, soak in warm water for 10 minutes, then drain.

In a pan, bring water to a boil. 

Stir in gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, and sugar to make the sauce.

Add tteok and fish cake (if using). 

Simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring, until sauce thickens.

Garnish with green onions and serve immediately.

3. Kimbap (Seaweed Rice Rolls)

Kpop Idol Who Loves it: SEVENTEEN’s Woozi

Why Idols Love It: Kimbap is an easy-peasy on-the-go meal that idols like SEVENTEEN’s Woozi prefer to pack for busy schedules. It’s customizable and perfect for a quick, balanced bite.

Ingredients (Makes 4 rolls):

4 sheets nori (seaweed)

2 cups cooked short-grain rice, seasoned with 1 tsp sesame oil

1 carrot, julienned

1 cucumber, julienned

4 strips pickled radish

2 eggs, scrambled and sliced

4 strips cooked spam or ham (optional)

Steps:

Lay a nori sheet on a bamboo mat. 

Spread a thin layer of rice evenly over ¾ of the sheet.

Add a row of carrot, cucumber, radish, egg, and spam (if using) near the bottom edge.

Roll tightly using the mat, sealing the edge with a dab of water. 

Slice into bite-sized pieces.

Serve with soy sauce for dipping.

4. Japchae (Stir-Fried Glass Noodles)

Kpop Idol Who Loves it: BLACKPINK’s Lisa

Why Idols Love It: Japchae’s sweet-savory noodles are a crowd-pleaser at idol gatherings, with stars like BLACKPINK’s Lisa praising its versatility. It’s light and refreshing yet satisfying.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

4 oz dangmyeon (sweet potato noodles)

1 cup spinach, blanched

1 carrot, julienned

1/2 onion, sliced

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 tsp sugar

1 tbsp vegetable oil

Sesame seeds for garnish

Steps:

Cook noodles in boiling water for 6–8 minutes, then rinse in cold water and drain.

Heat vegetable oil in a pan. 

Stir-fry carrot and onion for 3 minutes. Add spinach.

Add noodles, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. 

Toss for 2–3 minutes until combined.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve warm or cold.

5. Korean Egg Roll (Gyeran Mari)

Kpop Idol Who Loves it: EXO’s Baekhyun

Why Idols Love It: This fluffy egg roll is a quick breakfast or side dish (Banchan) that idols like EXO’s Baekhyun love for its simplicity. It’s protein-packed, fulfilling and ready in minutes.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

4 eggs

1 tbsp milk or water

1/4 carrot, finely chopped

1 green onion, finely chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tsp vegetable oil

Steps:

Whisk eggs, milk, carrot, green onion, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

Heat oil in a non-stick pan over low-medium heat. 

Pour in half the egg mixture.

Cook until half-set, then roll from one side to the other. 

Push to one side and add more egg mixture, repeating until all is rolled.

Slice and serve warm.

Pro Tip: Stock up on Korean pantry staples like gochujang, sesame oil, and kimchi at your local Asian market or online to make these recipes on repeat.
